I despise all government. Micheal Moore does nothing but drive the divide in our country even more. Much like Bush does with his choices. People tend to forget that its either now or later, if we start in Iraq, so be it, start in Afghanistan, so be it. Its going to be in all of those, if not now when? Im not sure what people want, a full pull of our troops there? You think that this wasnt the plan from the beginning, much like the island hopping in the pacific during WWII, thats going to be our new forigen policy. Venzuela (sp) poses the new problem, much like USSR and Cuba, now we will have Iran and Ven., but hey ya know.

[/ QUOTE ] You wanna point out some examples of where the president put the troops in the Pacific in WWII in a situation where they couldn't "shoot first and ask question later?" We dropped TWO atomic bombs ,where you been? The guys are trying to ref a civil war in Iraq. And Moore didn't stick his head between his legs, looking for WMDs , making a joke of the troops dying in Iraq. One is comedy ,the other is running the country. Which do you find funniest? You might as well laugh, cause "Lyndon Johnson jr" is gonna save them....from themselves no matter what it costs someone the US in troops and cash. And Iraq has MADE more terrorists than we will ever kill there. But GW is out in a couple of years, the trade is at an all-time low, interest rates are creeping up, and the military is worn out. This is not what he found when he took office, is it?

wow, really did you just muster al that up? great job. we now put soldiers on trial for killing people. people who could either come ask you for a cup of water or explode themselves.

How has Iraq made more terroists? Have they went to Italy and borrowed some of the cloning thats goin on there? Like Tupac said, they dont die they just multiple?

I really hope you understood the comparison between Island hopping and the countries over in the middle east.

WMD's? We should know they had them, we did in fact sell them to them. We are just going back and cleaning up what we created 20-25 years ago.

Look, Im no fan of the administration, Im no fan of the one before it. I just understand that if you go to war, people are going to die, in that it creates anti-war sentiment if we do not do anything, you have the anti-clinton backlash and how he did nothing to curb the problem we face today.

Its either complain about war or its complain about terroist acts.

I cant wait till 2010 and see what the argument is then.

[/ QUOTE ] We got the WMDs we sold them the FIRST time we "cleaned up" Iraq. Remember this is the second Bush, the second war. There are more terrorists simply because of the publicity and number of folks we have killed, turning people against us. Putting troops in a situation where they can't tell if someone wants to blow them up or get a drink of water isn't acceptable to me. They are warriors, if we aren't fighting a war, let the Iraqis fight for themselves. If they won't fight the "stay the course " is going to invole our grandchildren. If they can't stablize the country, after years of aid, what makes anyone think it would ever be any different?

    Re: Michael Moore post

Let see, how did we make them terrorists.

We take a country or a people who dislike us from birth. After years of a brutal dictator, we have some sentiment in the populace. We say our goal is like they said, find WMDs, find those responsible, no wait get Sadam, liberate them.

We might have proven ourselves a bit, but we kept saying we weren't looking to be an occupying force. As we were building permanent bases.

There's no question that we would have had problems no matter what. We however did exactly what the radicals told them from day 1, we weren't there for any WMDs or concern of the 911 issue, we were there to occupy their country. We of course say no no we're not, we're here to free you and we'll stay here to make sure you're free.

Put yourself in their shoes for a few minutes. Russia says we're coming over here to help the US eliminate the terrorists. All we want to do is help the US eliminate the terrorists and 6 months/a year/2 years later they are still here and doesn't seem to be getting any closer to eliminating terrorists or the problem, matter of fact doesn't seem like they really are doing a bunch, outside of protecting themselves as much as possible. Now immediately some people are going to think we don't want any Russians over here and be very anti-Russian. Some will attack them probably, some will sew discord. If someone tells you mark my words 6 months from now they'll not be any closer to gone, probably be more terrorists, the dang Russians probably will set off a few terrorist attacks themselves just to let us know how much danger we are in. So 6 months go by, and the situation is like they said it would be, your 'hey they are helping' goes out the window and turns into 'those pieces of crap need to be out of my country'. Maybe then you dont attack them but you start sewing discord yourself. Maybe 3 months later you decide you want to get rid of them, and if you have to you'll kill them out of your country yourself.

    Far fetched? Not that far.

Any sentiment we could have gotten in Iraq we lost when we stayed. Dictator-gone. WMD--not found. Terrorists-always are and always will be, damage them as much as you can but by doing what you said you will, you make a bit more of the populace believe you, not them and get more sources who will help. Now you have nothing.

[/ QUOTE ] After some thought, maybe you can explain this to me? Island hopping was to isolate troops that had to get their supplies across a thousand miles of ocean , with a navy that was hunted by the most powerful navy on earth. The troops on those islands left untouched were often scrambling just find enough to eat. No way to get off the island or attack the US. I just don't see how this mess in the middle east can compare with that? What ya gonna do "hop" a country and invade the next when we finish Iraq? That was the goal in WWII. And mainland Japan was the end goal, no doubts, they can't slip away, it was in the middle of the ocean as well. We still can't find the guy that started this. How would you compare that with "island hopping"?

Here is one thing I disagree with a little bit when you argue that we are making more terrorist. If they all dislike us from birth, yet now many work with us, and are for what we have done, wouldn't that eliminate a number of those who are possible terrorist? The actual number that are truly against us is far lower than the number with us. Its just that we only hear the bad side of whats going on overseas.

I also don't mean to sound crude, but look at the number we have lost. It is very slim compared to any other military action halfway close to this timeframe. I do hate it when we lose anyone, but if we are successful, it is for the greater good of our country in the long run.

Ok shirley, Ill explain this one time and I hope you paying attention. It is like island hopping because they went from island to island, this is where the comparison begins and ends. Iraq, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan etc. If you were to pull down a map and look and see the region of the middle east, you would see these countries are all close in proximity. As I have said, pretty clearly that Iraq was a starting point, actually Afghanistan was after 9-11, then to Iraq and as we see these rest is gonna be next, hence "like Island Hopping" I hope that is clear this time, thanks for the history lesson that I already knew.

And as for the rest of the topic, how can we make a terroist out of someone who is born to hate us? If they are born to hate then in that statemnt its beyond our control, unless we have invetro anti-western abilities.

But you guys know this, your disagreement with president Bush may skew your good thinking. And as I said before Im no way supporting Bush nor am I supporting Clinton, which means no I am not a democrat nor a republican.

I wonder how many are actually 'for us' though.

You're right, the numbers are small in comparison, but our other wars were also before our cutting edge defenses. Its also, a Civil War, rather we want to admit it or not.

    Re: Michael Moore post

I am all for Michael Moore's plan to send 28 million troops to Iraq, problem is there is one major hang up with his plan. The 28 million he wants to send that either voted for Bush or watch Fox News are "as a reasonable mind would presume" the very ones paying largest percentage of the cost of Iraq. Take away those 28 million tax payers off their job and send them to the middle east and you are left with a good portion of the kind that Moore himself probably hangs out with and passes the pipe all day. Is that who we would depend on to provide the crucial tax dollars for a war effort? Who would that leave to foot the bill? The better plan would be to draft 28 million or so able bodied men who for whatever reason can't or won't find a job and are being supported by all the Fox News watchers and Bush voters tax dollars. Then again you would probably drop them off in Baghdad and they would be running to Kuwait to sign up on their oil stamps. Scratch that plan...dang Bush does have a tough job
